Magellan AI launch 'Really Good Podcast Ads'

Magellan AI has launched a place to find really good podcast ads. People can search hundreds of podcast ads by industry name, podcast genres, podcast titles, and specific brand names. ReallyGoodPodcastAds is free. “We hope it will serve as a source of inspiration for podcast advertisers and help marketers see what their competition is offering in podcast ads”, we’re told.

• Magellan AI also tells us the top advertisers in US podcasts last month. BetterHelp is still #1, but Headspace was the biggest mover to get to #6: a mindfulness and meditation app.

• A far-right publisher The NOQ Report’s podcast has been removed from Spotify, and all its podcasts removed from Transistor. Meanwhile, in Niagara NY, the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center has decided to evict Yowawa Media Services, whos podcast studio was being used to produce a YouTube show for a right-wing group, the NY Watchmen.

• The New York Post reports that Andrew Yang, who is seeking election as the city mayor, did a host-read advertisement on his podcast for a bidet. A spokesperson reassured the paper that “Andrew Yang pledged to run a clean campaign”.

• Portland OR, USA-based A Kids Book About have hired Matthew Winner to build a kids podcast network. He hosts The Children’s Book Podcast.

• Luis Trelles has joined the NPR Enterprise Storytelling Unit as Senior Editor; he had been a senior editor at Latino USA. Andrew Mambo also joins NPR as Reporter/Producer on Invisibilia; he joins from ESPN. The unit has also had additional personnel changes.

• Larry King, a US radio and TV interviewer, died. In 2017, he gave his interviewing tips to the podcast The Turnaround. “The key of interviewing is listening. If you don’t listen, you’re not a good interviewer.”

• We’ve updated our look at episode notes and episode images in major podcast apps. We discover that Spotify doesn’t follow the RSS specification, sadly; Google Podcasts only shows the first 9,000 characters of episode notes; and that Apple does support episode images but only if you’re, er, not subscribed.
• 5.4% of the podcasts in our database already use The Podcast Index namespace. We highlight each in the “Information for podcasters” section in our podcast pages, and the tags they use.
• Dave Jones in the Podcast Index social group has suggested a simple private tag, to highlight that a feed is private and should not be listed in any public directory.
• podStation is a Chrome extension that functions as a Podcasting 2.0 podcast player.
