Joe Rogan: 3x the Spotify followers than the #2 show

• Joe Rogan has three times the number of followers than the next biggest show on Spotify, according to new figures from Rephonic. The service uses Spotify’s published follower figures. Interestingly, given data we published earlier this year showing that Spotify is #1 in most countries outside the US and UK, 76% of the top shows are in English.

• Most podcast consumers are open to discovering new podcasts, says research unveiled at Podcast Movement last week, by Cumulus Media and Westwood One. The data was collected nearly a year ago.

• Audiomeans has achieved IAB v2.2 certified status. The French podcast hosting company is certified for Download, Ad Delivery, Listener and Client-Confirmed Ad Play, and is the first hosting company to achieve certification in all four metrics for v2.2.

• Magellan AI released its podcast advertiser rankings for July 2024. There’s a webinar on Thursday.

• Libsyn bought Julep Media, a German podcast advertising company, in Aug 2022; but it’s emerged that Julep Media is now independent again, after the original Julep management team bought the company back in March. David Mossler is the new CEO. Julep’s podcast hosting has been spun off to a new company called Audiorella, run by Christian Rymarenko, former Julep COO.

• Podcast Beacon, a way to share a podcast with a single tap, has partnered with Podcards. The NFC wristbands and key fobs will now be backed by analytics from Podcards. The partnership was announced at Podcast Movement last week.

• At Podcast Movement on the Monday, some of us were lucky enough to see none other than Lainey Wilson at an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. Here’s a link to the concert on YouTube - it premieres later today. See if you can hear our Editor’s politely restrained British clapping.

• Android has a 66% share of the global smartphone market, according to new data from ScientiaMobile. iOS has 33%.

• Business Insider explains how Alex Cooper’s $125mn deal with SiriusXM works. Of course, there are targets to hit, including live events and programming for SiriusXM radio as well.
