We Are Podcast plans what they call House Sessions, “the world’s first multi-stream, multi-speaker, multi-day live virtual podcast conference”, a networking event between 21-23 May. Our Editor is speaking, along with many others including Jordan Harbinger, Libsyn’s Dave Jackson, Lyndal Harris, Laura Petersen, and Travis Chappell. Tickets are now available. The number of new podcasts are increasing massively. Apple Podcasts added just under 91,000 new podcasts in April, according to MyPodcastReviews. By way of comparison: March had 63,000 new podcasts, the previous record; and February just 50,000.

A popular Android podcast app Podcast Addict has added a way of getting your podcast featured in the app via a paid advertisement. It will start as low as $25 for some languages and categories, says the app’s developer. A self-service website for buying the ads coming soon.

Hindenburg has added “magic levels” to its digital audio desktop editor. The tool fixes “mic bleed” between two people in the same studio, automatically ducks music, and helps with recordings with uneven levels. (They advertise a 90-day trial with us occasionally).

Gimlet Media won a legal case in February about a company, Reply All Corp, who claimed a trademark violation (thrown out in court). Now Gimlet wants $1.4m from Reply All Corp to cover legal costs.

Spotify has produced a music playlist to accompany an ESPN podcast.

Apple Podcasts has shared a marketing website that gives downloadable buttons and links, and even QR codes for your podcasts.

Opinion: We like the QR codes, but the downside is, of course, than 80% of the world (and about 48% of the US) runs Android, for whom your Apple Podcasts link is not as helpful as one for Google Podcasts. So, our own podcast pages include badges and QR codes that work on all phones - search for your podcast, then find the page at the bottom marked link to this podcast. You can also download the code for your own website.

Dan Misener interviews Darian Muka at Pocket Casts about how consumption has changed during the pandemic. If anyone should know, a podcast app should know. 25% more people are using desktop to listen; but there’s no overall change in podcast consumption overall. (So, in other words, mobile phone apps like theirs are 25% down, which is consistent with what others have been saying).
