- Jul 20: Edison Research at SSRS released the top 50 podcasts in the US for Q2 2026. The Bill Simmons Podcast, which is now visible on Netflix, has jumped 17 positions to make it into the top 25 for the first time. British podcast The Rest Is History has entered the top 50 for the first time. (Simplecast hosts 17, Megaphone hosts 16, Omny Studio 4, ART19 and Audioboom 3, FlightCast, Acast, Blubrry, Libsyn, WNYC and WideOrbit 1)
- Jul 17: The company's changes at Megaphone - to use a new ad server - take place today.
- Jul 16: Leading Through Connection is hosted on Megaphone, and boy, they love their pre-rolls. When the YouTube RSS scraper went knocking, this is what it was served - podcast audio that starts with an ad, then an ad, then an ad, then an ad, then another ad, then an ad, then you guessed it an ad... in total, eight minutes 11 seconds of preroll ads, educating its listeners to work out how to hit the skip button. There isn't an intelligent listener out there who won't skip these prerolls. Thanks to a Podnews reader, who forwarded this on to us saying "you guys sometimes feature a section called DAI Disasters or something similar" - this truly is a DAI disaster (not least, because YouTube doesn't allow ads like this anyway). Let's hope that the new Spotify Ads server, which goes into place on Friday, caps its prerolls to a sensible amount, for all our sakes.
- Jul 13: Megaphone switches to using Spotify Ad Server from Friday. Since we reported on this in early May, the company appears to have changed the maximum allowable duration to 90 seconds rather than 60 seconds. VAST tags are no longer supported.
- Jun 18: David Cohn has been appointed as Chief Revenue Officer at AdLarge. He has previously worked at Westwood One, Spotify and Megaphone.
