More video is coming. At Podcast Movement Evolutions at SXSW, Stacey Goers and Jake Shapiro from Apple Podcasts announced a number of new podcast hosting partners for the upcoming Apple Podcasts HLS video feature. Transistor, Audiomeans, PodBean, Captivate, RSS
.com and Podigee are all soon to support HLS video on Apple Podcasts. The companies join Acast, Omny Studio, ART19 and Simplecast. - Feb 20: With all the excitement about video podcasting this week, you'd be forgiven for thinking that podcast consumption is now video-first. New US data released today by Triton Digital says that it isn't: only 7% of people exclusively watch podcasts; 80% of podcast listeners both watch and listen. The data is part of Triton Digital's 2025 Podcast Report, which is a free (with registration) download. Triton Digital's Omny Studio was a launch partner of Apple Podcasts new video service) earlier this week.
- Feb 17: Unlike Spotify or YouTube, your podcast host will continue to host the video files, using HLS to deliver video in good quality. However, it only works with participating podcast hosts; Apple has launched with just four participating companies: Acast, ART19, Omny Studio and Simplecast.
- Jan 8: Spotify announced a distribution API for video - allowing users to publish and monetise video content on Spotify direct from participating hosting platforms. Acast, Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom and Omny Studio are the launch partners. Dynamic video sponsorship management will be available through these partners too.
- Jan 2: And, Livewire says there were 13.2% more podcast episodes published last month than in the month of November. The data also shows Triton Digital's Omny Studio, an enterprise podcast host, has leapt from #9 to #6.
