- Mar 19: Good Hang with Amy Poehler launched yesterday - a video podcast with Spotify's The Ringer. The first two episodes include Tina Fey and Martin Short. Amy will talk to famous people about what makes them laugh, what they found funny recently, and more; it's with Paper Kite Productions.
- Mar 13: Five years after Spotify bought his podcast network The Ringer, founder Bill Simmons is to stay with Spotify, the company has announced. He will “remain at Spotify as Head of Talk Strategy”, a company spokesperson tells Podnews - remaining at Spotify he is, but that’s a new job title, though - he was previously Head of Podcast Monetization and Innovation, but at first appeared to be ignoring the innovation of video on Spotify, preferring instead to promote YouTube. He’ll report into Head of Podcast Business, Roman Wasenmüller.
- Feb 11: Amy Poehler is to launch a new podcast with Spotify’s The Ringer. The actor, who spoke at Evolutions in Los Angeles last year, is to do a new show called Good Hang, launching in March. It’ll be produced by her company Paper Kite Productions, which recently gained Jenna Weiss-Berman as Head of Audio.
- Nov 29, 2024: After a launch of Spotify’s video ambitions earlier in the month, industry observers are increasingly asking... why has Spotify’s Head of Podcast Monetization and Innovation so publicly decided not to back it? First spotted by Chris Petersen and again earlier this week by John McDermott, while you can watch this episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast in full video on YouTube, you can only listen to the same episode on Spotify. The Ringer isn’t posting video on Spotify for many of their shows, including ones specifically about video, like The Big Picture, The Rewatchables, The Watch, and The Prestige TV Podcast; and many sports shows - like The Ringer NBA show, which again posts full video on YouTube, but only audio on Spotify. Given Spotify has been shouting about video since June last year, we’re curious as to The Ringer’s reticence.
- Oct 22, 2024: Spotify’s The Ringer has announced a set of new talent joining the network. Todd McShay, Joel Anderson, Kirk Goldsberry and David Jacoby are to join the network’s talent roster.
